In keeping with its mission of providing emergency support and immediate relief, Hisaar Foundation embarked upon a Flood Relief Campaign 2011, for provision of clean and safe drinking water and food ration to flood victims across Districts Badin, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Mirpurkhas, in Sindh. The losses caused by the unprecedented floods this year alone exceeded Rs 600 million, leaving nearly 8 million people homeless, damaging 90 percent of the crops in the coastal belt, resulting in great insecurity of food and wide scale contamination of drinking water across the province.
As part of its immediate flood relief efforts, the Foundation, through the generous support of Federation Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), United Bank Limited (UBL), Adamjee Foundation, Association for the Ill and Deprived (an association of medical students of Ziauddin Hospital), students of Indus Academy and individual national and international philanthropists and in collaboration with its implementing partners Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP) and Badin Rural Development Society (BRDS), distributed food ration to 2100 families, and 1005 family life straws, 17 cartons of medicines, 3300 litres of bottled water, 100 kgs Ata, 39 cartons milk and 93 cartons of energy biscuits, amongst the flood people in these severely affected Districts across Sindh.
In addition, the Foundation, through its UBL supported Project AAB, also installed one 3000 gallon capacity per day water filtration plant in District Badin, as a long-term solution for clean and safe drinking water.
Hisaar Foundation would like to thank its partners and supporters for their generous donations, which enabled us to surpass our 2011 Appeal target of Rs 6 million and to date raise Rs 7,563,749 in cash and in- kind, towards this relief campaign.
